Three Reauthorization Acts Signed into Law.
H.R. 645:
Reauthorization of Rhinoceros and Tiger Conservation Act Congressman Wayne Gilchrest (R-MD) introduced legislation to reauthorize the Rhinoceros and Tiger Conservation Act of 1994 through the year 2007. The current law, which will expire in 2002, assists in the conservation of rhinoceros and tigers by supporting and providing financial resources of up to $5 million per year for the conservation programs of nations whose activities directly or indirectly affect rhinoceros and tiger populations, and of the CITES Secretariat. Reauthorization of the African Elephant Conservation Act Congressman Wayne Gilchrest (R-MD) introduced legislation to reauthorize the African Elephant Conservation Act through the year 2007. The current law, which will expire in 2002, assists in the conservation of African Elephants by supporting and providing financial resources of up to $5 million per year for the conservation programs of nations whose activities directly or indirectly affect African Elephant populations, and of the CITES Secretariat. Reauthorization of the Asian Elephant Conservation Act Congressman Jim Saxton (R-NJ) introduced legislation to reauthorize the Asian Elephant Conservation Act through the year 2007. The current law, which will expire in 2002, assists in the conservation of Asian Elephants by supporting and providing financial resources of up to $5 million per year for the conservation programs of nations whose activities directly or indirectly affect Asian Elephant populations, and of the CITES Secretariat.
