| The Drug Kingpins Bankruptcy Act of 1999 |
|
The Colombian and Mexican drug cartels have taken over most of the smuggling of exotic birds and reptiles pouring out of Central and South America. Many are endangered species being driven to extinction. The cartels also have bought up tuna fleets in Central and South America and are using them to smuggle drugs and for money laundering. These same drug-tainted tuna companies are refusing to stop killing dolphins in their purse seine nets and have successfully pressured the Clinton-Gore administration to lift the US ban on dolphin-deadly tuna. The bill passed the Senate and the House and was signed by the President on December 3, 1999. On June 1, 2000, the White House presented the first list of suspected drug kingpins to the Congress as required by the law. CNN: U.S. issues first list of international drug kingpin suspects |
